Memorandum opinion on claim construction issued in patent infringement litigation between Ravo and Nicolo and Covidien LP

January 16, 2014-Inventors Biagio Ravo and Enrico Nicolo sued Covidien LP for infringement of Patent No. 6,117,148, which is directed to a surgical device that can be used to resect a section of bowel through intussusception followed by anastomosis, preventing the intraluminal contents from contaminating the body cavity. Chief Judge Joy Flowers Conti of the District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania issued a memorandum opinion regarding construction of additional disputed claim terms after a prior claim construction hearing.
