Trial Begins in Dispute Between Greatbatch and AVX Corporation over Pacemaker Technology

January 12, 2016 – Trial began on January 11 in the District of Delaware over a patent infringement dispute between AVX Corporation and Greatbatch Ltd. related to medical implant technology (pacemakers).  United States District Judge Leonard P. Stark is presiding over the trial and bifurcated the infringement and invalidity allegations, with the infringement part of the trial currently taking place in front of the jury.  The trial is expected to last until about January 22.  Greatbatch’s patents-in-suit in the infringement trial are U.S. Patent No. 5,333,095, entitled “Feedthrough Filter Capacitor Assembly for Human Implant,” and U.S. Patent No. 5,905,627, entitled “Internally Grounded Feedthrough Filter Capacitor.”  The case citation is: Greatbatch Ltd. v. AVX Corp. et al., 1:13-cv-00723 (D. Del. 2013).
